A Wonderful and Humbling Experience

Getting to spend some time on the ground at the care point in Njojane has been a wonderful and humbling experience. My family has sponsored a child in this community for about 3 years now and it is definitely hard to feel connected to your sponsor child when they live so far away and when you have never met. Well yesterday I was able to meet our sponsored child for the first time and it was quite a moving experience. When we first met, one of the caretakers translated and told her who I was. At that moment she burst into tears of happiness, and I gave her a long hug. It was an unexpected, but very touching reaction. It was apparent that she was very aware of the fact that she was being supported and she was very grateful. It was one of the more moving experiences of my life. She is a sweet girl and today (the 2nd day at the care point) we got to share some more time together. She was looking for me today and when I caught her eye she was being shy and ducked behind her friend. I was a little more savvy today with my use of help on interpretation, and we were able to relate more details about each of our families and interests. You couldn’t get the smile off her face if you tried!

It is amazing to see how much of an impact the child sponsorships at Connection Pointe are having in this forgotten corner of the planet. The situation is very desperate for these kids and to know that our help can bring Christ’s love to them in a real way is encouraging and humbling. The kids in this place are literally getting their only meal each day because of the support of people in our church community, and you can see in their face how much it means to them. We helped with medical examinations today, and tomorrow we get to help with chicken day! After seeing what they eat each day I understand now why “Chicken Day” is going to be such a big day! I am really looking forward to working with the team to continue pouring out Christ-like love on these kids for a few more days!
