Gorakhpur is a city of about one million and headquarters for the ministry. Upon arrival we heard a musical program by the children from the railway shelter. After dinner at their compound we had a tour of the facilities. A recent development is that they have recently been approved by the government to receive abandoned children. Thus far two babies have taken in, and adoption homes have already been found. Just prior to our arrival a two-day old baby (found abandoned in the bushes) was brought to the compound by the local police (see picture). Our labor and delivery nurse, Sarah, very much enjoyed this part of our visit!
