Our team is thrilled to be in Guatemala! Arriving in La Comunidad on Sunday, we headed into the community, where we visited several families. We got to know the children and their mothers, see their homes and pray for their needs.
This week our team will support the Learning Center teachers by leading VBS for 106 three – nine-year-olds … who have lots of energy! Our first day at the Learning Center drove home its impact on the community. Two years ago, there was a gate to an empty field. Today, there are two bamboo classrooms, and a third with a kitchen and teachers’ room. A play-set sits below a large mango tree, which also shades an area for story- and playtime.
The community values all that the Learning Center provides: education, a meal a day, basic medical and teaching about Christ. The waiting list and interest from neighboring communities is evidence to its importance to the area.
Our second task of the week will be to work with the community to start a community garden. The pastor selected the poorest widows / single mothers to get the first 18 plots. From those plots, they will feed their families healthy food, tithe part of their harvest to the church, and contribute part of the food to the Learning Center.
Thank you for your support for this team. We come with confidence, knowing of the prayers lifted up before and during our time here.
