Vision Trust Guatemala is one of Connection Pointe’s key partners. Los Verdes, Guatemala, is a place where we are investing resources via the Learning Center and staff, and the most-visited of all our partners.  This partnership is flourishing!

In January another class of students enrolled in the Learning Center in Los Verdes. These children have the opportunity to learn about Jesus, to grow academically and to receive nutritious meals and healthcare.

In March a team of 17 Connection Pointe high school students and their leaders traveled to Los Verdes. These students spent Spring Break teaching VBS, showing love to the children and teachers, and installing 90 water filters in homes throughout the community. Our travel teams serve in the context of Jesus’ mandate to spread the good news and address social justice.

This month another team of high school students and their leaders began their summer by serving in Guatemala. This team of 17 spent time with the children at the Learning Center, engaged with the community and worked together with local laborers to build a retaining wall. The team bonded with children and staff with an evening at the movies.

In October our final Guatemala team for 2015 will head to Los Verdes. Follow the adventures through this blog.

NO ONE CAN DO EVERYTHING, BUT WE CAN ALL DO SOMETHING…

The needs in Los Verdes are great and there is much to be done! Here are some ways the Connection Pointe Family can make an ongoing impact in this community…

PRAY: For the children, for the Learning Center staff and for the travel teams.

SPONSOR: For $40/month, you can sponsor a child, allowing them to attend the Learning Center. At the center they are fed spiritually, physically and emotionally.

DONATE: Another opportunity to give is by contributing non-chewy children’s multivitamins, a constant need at the Learning Center. Vitamins may be dropped off at the Reception Desk in the main lobby. Mark the bag “GUATEMALA VITAMINS.”

LEARN:

  • Perspectives Class (Begins August 11. Details here.)
  • Life on Mission Series (Starts September 11.)
  • Women’s Event – Celebrating what God is doing in our world. (November 20)

GO: There will be many opportunities to travel to our partnerships in 2016. Look for trip details to follow.

JOIN A CARE TEAM: The purpose of our Global Impact Care Teams is to deepen our relationships with, and our support of, our partners. Care Team details here.

CIRCULAR BLESSING

The Guatemala Care Team recently had the opportunity to Skype with our partner, Rut. We concluded our time together by praying for her. But before we hung up, we were stopped and asked for our prayer requests. Rut prayed for our friend recovering from surgery, for our church’s global impact and for heart-change for travelers.

We were blessed. It made me think of other experiences, when Connection Pointe teams went to Guatemala to bless, and returned blessed. Like…

I thought of our team attending a church service in Los Verdes to engage with the community … And the pastor leading his congregation in prayer for us.

I thought of our team thanking the staff of our accommodations with a prayer …And the workers blessing us with a send-off prayer: a deep, fervent, dependent prayer for safe travels and for our families.

I thought of our team traveling to Guatemala with the intent of loving the kids and supporting the teachers …And returning with the blessings of new perspectives on the global church, worship, prayer, generosity and community.

Proverbs 11:25 offers, “…Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

When we serve in our community, our nation or globally, we are blessed.
